Study in Germany

A practical route for applicants from Georgia — from qualification checks to the visa.

YOUR ADMISSION PATH

Georgian school certificates and Studienkolleg

There is no single answer for every applicant: the result depends on the certificate type, graduation year and later education. DAAD and uni-assist checks are indicative; the university makes the final decision.

1

Check your HZB

Select Georgia in the DAAD Admission Database and answer the questions about your education history.

Direct admission or Studienkolleg

If your qualification does not allow direct admission, you may need a one-year preparatory course and Feststellungsprüfung.

Confirm the application route

The university may use direct application, uni-assist or a VPD first. VPD processing usually takes 4–6 weeks.

Language requirement

Depends on the program

German-taught programs usually require an accepted German certificate; English-taught programs may require IELTS, TOEFL or another university-approved option. Confirm the exact level on the program page.

Tuition fees

Tuition-free does not always mean €0

Many public universities charge no general tuition, but a semester contribution still applies. In Baden-Württemberg, non-EU students often pay €1,500 per semester; TUM may also charge program-specific tuition for third-country students.

Visa and finances

At least €11,904 — 2026

According to Germany's official portal, at least €11,904 is required in 2026 to prove living-cost funding for a student visa. A blocked account, scholarship or declaration of commitment may be accepted.

Working while studying

140 full or 280 half days

A student residence permit also allows work of up to 20 hours per week; separate rules apply to student jobs.
